George Clooney Calls Out Quentin Tarantino: “That’s Kind of My Whole F—ing Career

George Clooney, in a candid interview with GQ magazine, addressed recent remarks made by Quentin Tarantino, who allegedly questioned Clooney’s status as a movie star. Clooney, who was joined by longtime friend and co-star Brad Pitt for the cover story, expressed his irritation over Tarantino’s comments.

George Clooney’s Response to Tarantino

During the interview, Clooney revealed his frustration with Tarantino’s remarks. The director, known for his work on “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” reportedly dismissed Clooney’s status as a prominent movie star. Tarantino was quoted as saying he couldn’t name a significant film from Clooney since the millennium, which Clooney took as a slight against his career.

“I’m a little irritated by him,” Clooney said. “He did some interview where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about [Brad], and somebody else, and then this guy goes, ‘Well, what about George?’ He goes, he’s not a movie star. And then he literally said something like, ‘Name me a movie since the millennium.’ And I was like, ‘Since the millennium? That’s kind of my whole fucking career.’”

Clooney, known for his roles in films such as “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Michael Clayton,” did not hold back in his response. “So now I’m like, all right, dude, fuck off. I don’t mind giving him shit,” he added.

Hollywood’s Changing Landscape

Clooney and Pitt also discussed the evolving nature of Hollywood and the role of movie stars. According to Clooney, the industry no longer produces stars in the same way it did in the past. “Well, they haven’t developed stars the way the studio system used to,” Clooney explained. “We kind of were at the very end of that, where you could work at a studio and do three or four films, and there was some plan to it. And I don’t think that’s necessarily the case anymore.”

Despite the changes, Clooney sees opportunities for young actors. He noted the increase in available work due to the explosion of TV shows and films, contrasting it with the more limited options when he started his career.

Now in his 40th year of acting, Clooney reflects on his enduring career with a mix of surprise and gratitude. “I remember I talked to [Matt] Damon about this 25 years ago, when he first hit with his movie and won the Oscar,” Clooney said. “I was like, ‘Just know that if you get a 10-year career, playing at that level, it’s an absolute jackpot.’ Nobody sustains it much longer than that.”

He also addressed the perception that his career consists of playing variations of himself. “There’s a narrative that people love to do with me, which is like, I’m always just playing a version of me,” Clooney said. “And I always go, ‘Well, all right, but I don’t know that many people are doing “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and “Michael Clayton.”‘”
